Claude will now build your dashboard and show you the SQL. The animation tool refuses to make people.

Anthropic put Claude Dashboards and Claude Motion into beta on 8 October 2026, took Docs, Slides and Design out of beta for every plan, and set a 14 December shutdown for the standalone Design site.

Anthropic's announcement on 8 October 2026 does four things at once, and the headline features are the least settled of them.

Claude Dashboards is in beta on paid plans. Claude Motion is in beta on Team and Enterprise only. Docs, Slides and Design have lost their beta label and now run on every plan, including Free. And the standalone Claude Design site at claude.ai/design is being folded into the main app and closes on 14 December 2026.

The through-line is a product category Anthropic calls artifacts: things Claude builds inside a conversation rather than text it writes. The company says people have made "more than 45 million docs, decks, and designs in Claude" since those three templates arrived in every conversation. That is Anthropic's own count with no independent check, but it explains why the beta labels came off.

Dashboards: the query is the product

Here is what Dashboards actually does, per the help page. You connect a data warehouse, with Amazon Redshift, BigQuery, ClickHouse, Databricks and Snowflake named, or another app already wired into Claude, with Salesforce as the example. You ask a question in plain language. "Claude writes a SQL query for each chart and runs it against your data source."

The part worth paying for is the next sentence. "Each chart shows its query, so you can see exactly what it's counting, along with when its data was last refreshed." You can open any number and read the SQL behind it, and if it is counting the wrong thing you tell Claude and it rewrites the query.

That is a different design choice from chat-to-chart tools that hand you a figure and ask you to trust it. A visible query is auditable by anyone who reads SQL. Neither feature makes the query correct. Both make a wrong query findable, which is the thing that goes missing when an analyst is replaced by a prompt.

Anthropic also scopes the tool narrowly, and in writing. "Dashboards are made for quick, exploratory questions, like how this week's signups compare with last month's. When a question needs deeper analysis, send the dashboard to another tool and continue there." The hand-off targets are named: Amplitude, Grafana, Hex, Mixpanel, Omni, Perplexity, PostHog and Sigma today, with Looker, monday.com and Tableau "coming soon." Read that as a tool that sits in front of your BI stack, not one that replaces it.

Motion: animation as code, and no synthetic people

Claude Motion is the more unusual of the two, because of what it refuses to be. It turns a report, a chart or a walkthrough into a short animation you can export as an MP4. The help page is explicit about the mechanism: "Claude Motion doesn't use a video generation model, so it doesn't create realistic footage or people."

Instead, Claude writes code that animates your text, charts, shapes and images. Because the output is code, "you can change one detail, like a word, a number, or the timing, and the rest stays as it was." You can ask in chat, with the documentation's own examples being "Slow down the second scene" or "Change the Q3 number to 18%," or edit directly in the editor.

“Each chart shows its query, so you can see exactly what it's counting, along with when its data was last refreshed.”

Two consequences follow. First, this is an explainer tool, not a video generator, and Anthropic says so by listing where you take a finished animation when you want more: Adobe, Descript, HeyGen, Higgsfield, invideo, Luma AI and Runway, with Canva and Captions to come. Second, the cost model is honest about compute. "Longer or more complex animations use more of your limit than a typical message." No maximum length or resolution is published, so budget by trial.

Who gets what, and when

The plan matrix matters more than usual here because the two features land in different places.

Dashboards: Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, in beta. Off by default on Enterprise until an owner turns it on.

Motion: Team and Enterprise only, in beta. On by default for Team, off by default for Enterprise.

Docs, Slides, Design: every plan, including Free, out of beta. For Enterprise, these three "turn on by default October 15, or you can turn them on today."

Both new features count against your plan's usage limits "like the rest of your work with Claude," so a heavy dashboard habit eats the same allowance as chat.

Anthropic is also shipping enterprise plumbing for the whole artifacts category: customer-managed encryption keys, admin control over which templates an organization can use, team editing on the same doc or dashboard, external sharing where an admin allows it, PowerPoint and PDF export, and mobile editing. For a buyer weighing Claude against Microsoft's Copilot super app, that list is the comparison that counts, not the animation demo.

The standalone Design site is going away

The quietest line in the post is the one with a date attached. Claude Design launched at its own URL. Since 16 September it has also worked inside every Claude conversation, and Anthropic says "running two versions slows down fixes for both," so the standalone site closes on 14 December 2026.

“Claude Motion doesn't use a video generation model, so it doesn't create realistic footage or people.”

The migration guide spells out what moves and what does not. Design systems migrate in one click from the Artifacts page, and the originals stay on the old site until it closes. Projects "keep working in the standalone version until it closes," with moving instructions promised later. Chats and comments do not move anywhere and "won't be available after it closes." Public links to standalone projects stop working the same day. Organizations on zero data retention cannot migrate at all.

If your team built anything on claude.ai/design, the practical deadline is well before December, because the comment threads are the part you cannot export later.

What is missing from the announcement

No benchmark, no customer numbers beyond the artifact count, and no independent testing of either feature. Dashboards' core claim, that the generated SQL is correct often enough to be useful, is not quantified anywhere. Anthropic's own Sonnet 5.5 release shows this company publishes evaluation tables when it has them. It has none here, which is what beta means.

Our take

Dashboards is the real product here, and its best feature is a design decision rather than a model capability: every number shows its SQL and its refresh time. That is the right way to build a chat-to-chart tool, and it is still only as good as the query behind it, so treat the first version as a draft from a junior analyst who shows their working.

Motion is a clever, narrow explainer tool that has deliberately kept generated footage and people out of scope, which is the correct call for a business product and will disappoint anyone expecting a video model. The date to write down is 14 December, when the standalone Design site and everything commented on it disappears.

Frequently asked questions

Which Claude plans get Dashboards and Motion?

Dashboards is in beta on Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise. Motion is in beta on Team and Enterprise only, so Pro and Max subscribers do not get it. On Enterprise, both are off by default until an owner enables them under Organization settings.

Can I check whether a Claude dashboard number is right?

Yes. Claude writes a SQL query for each chart, and each chart shows that query along with when its data was last refreshed. You can open the query, and if it is counting the wrong thing, ask Claude to change it. The transparency makes a wrong query findable, but it does not make the query correct on its own.

Does Claude Motion generate video?

No. Anthropic's help page states that Motion does not use a video generation model and does not create realistic footage or people. It writes code that animates your own text, charts, shapes and images, which you can edit and export as an MP4.

What happens to the standalone Claude Design site?

It stays at claude.ai/design until 14 December 2026, then closes. Design systems can be migrated in one step from the Artifacts page. Projects keep working on the old site until it closes. Chats and comments do not migrate and will not be available after closure, and public links to standalone projects stop working.

Do dashboards and animations count against my usage limit?

Yes. Both count toward your plan's usage limits like the rest of your work with Claude, and Anthropic says longer or more complex animations use more of your limit than a typical message.
